New Wild Painters. German Neo-expressionism From The 1980s
As audacious as punk shook the world of pop music, neo-expressionism manifested itself in the world of art around 1980. This was nowhere as intense as in (then West) Germany. The Groninger Museum bought neo-expressionist work at an early stage. This retrospect presented paintings by among others Walter Dahn, Jiří Georg Dokoupil, Rainer Fetting, Martin Kippenberger, Milan Kunc, Albert Oehlen, and Salomé. Museum de Fundatie in Zwolle simultaneously showed German expressionist paintings dating from the early twentieth century.
