On 8 November 2024, the Groninger Museum will host an international symposium about East Asian ceramics. Distinguished scholars will present lectures about their research and other interesting topics in the field of East Asian ceramics. Attendees will also have an opportunity to view the Groninger Museum’s latest exhibition, Dragons & Demons: 5000 Years of Asian Ceramics from the Anders Collection, curated by Christiaan Jörg together with Lecong Zhou, Junior Curator of Asian Ceramics.
Speakers will be:
• Rosemary Scott, independent academic consultant Asian Art at RS Asian Art, former president of the Oriental Ceramic Society
• Prof. Dr. Dashu Qin, professor, School of Archaeology and Museology, Peking University
• William R. Sargent, independent curator, former H. A. Crosby Forbes Curator of Asian Export Art, Peabody Essex Museum
• Prof. Dr. Anne Gerritsen, Professor of History, Warwick University & Chair of Asian Art, Leiden University
• Dr. Pauline d'Abrigeon, Curator Baur Foundation
• Prof. Dr. Christiaan J. A. Jörg, former curator, Groninger Museum & professor emeritus, Leiden University
Attendees will travel to Leeuwarden on the second symposium day to visit the new exhibition Wu Zetian, the Only Female Emperor of China at the at the Princessehof National Museum of Ceramics.
The symposium is a closed event, but a video recording is being made that will be published on groningermuseum.nl later this year.
